The more complete version

Which information is collected when you use the site?

Like many other websites, this site collects information through various log files to monitor site performance & security (such as your IP address, your browser, etc.). All of this information cannot be linked to anything personally identifiable.

The IP address of visitors, user ID of logged in users, and username of login attempts are conditionally logged to check for malicious activity and to protect the site from specific kinds of attacks. Examples of conditions when logging occurs include login attempts, log out requests, requests for suspicious URLs, changes to site content, and password updates. This information is retained for 14 days.

This site is part of a network of sites that protect against distributed brute force attacks. To enable this protection, the IP address of visitors attempting to log into the site is shared with a service provided by ithemes.com. For privacy policy details, please see the iThemes Privacy Policy.

I also use cookies to store information about visitor preferences and to record user-specific information on visits and pages the user views so as to provide a custom experience.

If you wish to disable cookies you may do so through your web browser options. Instructions for doing so and for other cookie-related management can be found on the specific web browsers’ websites.

Users might be asked to subscribe to my newsletter by providing a name and email address to receive communication from me. I use a secure opt-in subscription system provided by MailChimp and I reserve the right to contact subscribers with information related to this website and blog. Subscribers may unsubscribe anytime and every email delivered will contain an “Unsubscribe” link.

When you leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.  Comments may also be checked through an automated spam detection service.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

When you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

What do I do with your information?

If I ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, like marketing or newsletter subscription, I will either ask you directly for your expressed consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no.

If after you opt-in, you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent for me to contact you, for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at any time, by contacting me.

However, I may disclose your personal information if I am required by law to do so or if you violate the site’s Terms of Service.

Which third-party services are used on the site?

In general, the third-party providers used by the site will only collect, use and disclose your information to the extent necessary to allow them to perform the services they provide to the site.

However, certain third-party service providers, such as payment gateways and other payment transaction processors, have their own privacy policies in respect to the information I am required to provide to them for your purchase-related transactions.

For these providers, I recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand the manner in which your personal information will be handled by these providers.

In particular, remember that certain providers may be located in or have facilities that are located in a different jurisdiction than either you or us. So if you elect to proceed with a transaction that involves the services of a third-party service provider, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which that service provider or its facilities are located.

As an example, if you are located in Canada and your transaction is processed by a payment gateway located in the United States, then your personal information used in completing that transaction may be subject to disclosure under United States legislation, including the Patriot Act.

Once you leave this site or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by this Privacy Policy or the site’s Terms of Service. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements too.

Is the site secure?

When you navigate the site, all information is encrypted thanks to my SSL certificate (which you can see through the little green lock next to your browser URL field).

Moreover, all payment-related information is not directly handled by this site, since I use PayPal gateway to handle the job (see above for more details).

Does this policy change often?

I reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time, so please review it frequently. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the website. If I make material changes to this policy, I will notify you here that it has been updated, so that you are aware of what information I collect, how I use it, and under what circumstances, if any, I use and/or disclose it.

If this site is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred to the new owners so that I may continue to sell products to you.
