Could it just be that business analyst is not longer an actual job : it is just a broad term used to talk about business process analyst, IT strategy analyst, etc. Similar to the way we say that a neurosurgeon and an ophthalmologist are both doctors.

Trying to define precisely something that is aimed at being broad would therefore be pretty hard indeed...

This is a lovely manifesto—which I mean in a most positive way—and I think I'll be quoting you soon. Thank you for sharing it. You're not alone in trying to find a way to explain what we do in a simple way. My mom and dad keep asking for a simple way to describe what we do so they can tell their friends. Doctors might say "I heal people"; engineers could say "I build stuff"; lawyers may assert "I navigate the law." BAs are left with a mish-mash of stuff we do, without a single, visionary statement.

When I see this lack of clarity in requirements I usually assume that this is a symptom of not having found the real problem yet—an assumption I think may be valid in this case.

J'ecrit Francais comme une enfant, mais je tiens à vous remercier pour la mention.

I don't know if I wrote that correctly, but I hope that it's the effort that counts, right? :)

I truly appreciate it.
